Although some couples might roll their eyes at Valentine’s Day, there are always others that want to celebrate their love during this holiday. It’s their time to spice things up a bit from the everyday, and oftentimes, this means buying each other a gift.
But these gifts don’t always have to be individualized. Sometimes going in on the same present can be best for your time and finances, and you might enjoy it more if you’ve picked it out together, especially if it helps you make new memories.
So, if you’d rather spend money this holiday on an experiential gift, or something you can do with your loved one, then this list is for you.
1. A TWO-PERSON BOARD GAME
Nowadays, there are more game options than you can imagine — even games for just two people. So, peruse the shopping aisles or look online to find one that you and your significant other would enjoy, and play it on Valentine’s Day.
2. A MASSAGE
Giving a massage to each other during this holiday is nice, but if you feel like truly pampering yourselves, go get a real massage! Whether you decide on an individual or couples massage, it will be an experience for you both because it’ll get you relaxed for a nice evening together at home.
3. A BEVERAGE SUBSCRIPTION BOX
From coffee and tea to wine and whiskey, there are some fun beverage subscription boxes out there! Try different flavors of one of your favorite drinks and have some fun rating each one to see if your taste buds are the same. (And if you don’t like the same beverage, you could always buy two different subscriptions.)
4. MOVIE TICKETS
Despite constantly streaming from home, you might appreciate going to the movie theater still. Around Valentine’s Day is a great time to do so because many new movies release then. And no worries, there will be more to see than just romantic comedies if those aren’t your genre of choice.
5. A COOKING CLASS
If you both enjoy improving your personal skills or eating food in general, going to a 1- or 2-hour cooking class could be a fun activity. Usually, the businesses that host these events have date night classes or a Valentine’s Day-specific class, too.
6. A MURDER MYSTERY BOX
Is one of your pastimes as a couple listening to true crime podcasts? If so, then you would probably have some fun with a murder mystery box. You can order a one-time mystery or get a subscription in which you’ll receive a new box monthly.
7. CONCERT/SHOW TICKETS
Maybe you both like theater or have a list of singers and bands you love. Check out what shows are playing during Valentine’s Day and who will be touring this year. Even if you don’t see the concert in February, it’s still an experience that was planned around your love for each other.
8. DINNER AT A FAVORITE RESTAURANT
This idea is cliché, but you also can’t really go wrong with it. It’s romantic, plus it’s a great way to make your conversations a little more special since you’re not just sitting at home, and it ensures no one has to do the work to prepare dinner.
9. AN ART ACTIVITY/CLASS
If the two of you are into learning new things and want to make something for each other, try an art activity or art class. You could paint some pottery at a local shop or do a Paint and Sip workshop. Oftentimes, these art shops have date night and/or Valentine’s Day options.
10. AN EVENING AT A NICE HOTEL
Sometimes pampering yourselves by switching your environment is the best gift you can give each other. Especially if you’re able to get a sitter for the kids, going on a romantic getaway to a hotel in your area could be exactly what you need to enjoy some couple time and show each other how much you care during this holiday.
Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about the gift your special someone is getting you. It can also be about spending time together doing something new or something you both love. So get with your significant other and consider what kind of event or activity you want to enjoy this year. It could become your sweetest Valentine’s Day yet.
