"Working at MaM Massage and Spa for over a year as an official therapist has been an awesome experience. Every new job has its ups and downs, and massage is no different. Initially, I had a lot of soreness from building new muscles, and I still have to get regular massages to protect myself from injury. As a positive, I have been privileged to hear stories about work and life from countless people. I have been able to help relieve chronic muscle pain and tension. I have been able to see people come in less tight than last time from consistent scheduling. People would start with super tense shoulders and neck and then after a couple months they wouldn’t be so tight and I could perform a more relaxing massage for them. I have been able to get to know my clients and learn about their lives, and that is such an awesome positive aspect. So many people work really hard and endure large amounts of stress. I get to see them release some of that tension in our sessions.

A few years ago, I worked in the fast food coffee industry and I was really discouraged by how impatient people could be from waiting a couple more minutes for their coffee. I was disappointed by how people can mistreat each other so easily, especially when they don’t know the person on the other side of the window. Now that I am in the wellness industry my faith in humanity is sort of restored after hearing so many people’s stories. A lot of people are really awesome people out there, and they are just stressed and in pain. When I was in the fast food coffee industry I saw some people at their worst, and in the wellness industry I get to see people at their most vulnerable, and it is easy to have compassion for people in pain.

Another positive aspect is I have gotten to learn about all kinds of work industries since how people work greatly affects their body tension. I have learned about people in the medical industry, oil and gas industry, insurance agents, stock pullers, construction workers, carpet cleaners, hair artists, estheticians, nail techs, real estate agents/investors, house cleaners, factory workers, truck drivers, accountants, professional mural artists, and the work from home sales industry. Learning from my clients about their jobs and how to do things better in my own life is so encouraging and special.

When I learn what they do all day, we can pinpoint certain things that cause more tension and pain in their body and come up with a plan to mitigate that tension and pain through movement/breaks, stretching, self-massage, and hot baths. I have seen a lot of people get so much better over a period of months. It is really rewarding and I am happy to be a part of seeing them get better. Overall, I would say that this job is hard. I work really hard to put a lot of pressure and use techniques to relieve tension, but also it is so rewarding and totally worth it. Thank you Margarita for letting me be a part of the MaM team and looking forward to more years together easing chronic muscle pain."
